1950s BRITAIN
Step Back into Everyday Life in 1950s Britain
About the collection
Take a step back in time and discover what everyday life was like in 1950s Britain at the 1950’s Museum.
Explore our collection of fully dressed 1950s rooms, recreated to capture the look and feel of homes, shops and everyday life in the post-war years.
Walk into our 1950s kitchen, complete with original gadgets, cookware and household appliances, and see how families cooked and lived in an era of post-war change.
Explore our 1950s lounges, complete with an early television, radio and, of course, the iconic flying ducks on the wall. You can also discover a traditional 1950s bedroom and step inside our recreated hairdressers and men and women’s clothing and accessories area.
The Smithfield Road Tin Shop
One of the highlights of the collection is our reconstructed 1950s ‘tin shop’, originally located on Smithfield Road in Denbigh.
The shop contains original stock from the business and offers a fascinating glimpse into how everyday goods were sold and packaged before plastic became commonplace.
Take a Break
Our 1950s-style tea and coffee area is the perfect place to take a break during your visit.
We sell tea and coffee, and you’re welcome to bring your own sandwiches and enjoy them during your visit.
