Crime, Scandal & Infamous Stories
About the collection
Step into a fascinating collection of real-life stories, infamous characters and historic vehicles at the 1950’s Museum.
One of our most famous exhibits is the original Austin Loadstar lorry used as the getaway vehicle in the 1963 Great Train Robbery. See the original cab and discover the story behind this remarkable vehicle — including the ingenious hiding place created in the back of the lorry to conceal the stolen money.
The collection also includes signatures from members of the Great Train Robbery gang, including Bruce Reynolds and Ronnie Biggs. Bruce Reynolds himself visited the museum, where he gave a talk and became a close friend of Sparrow. Hear Sparrow’s own stories about meeting Bruce and discover more about the man behind one of Britain’s most notorious crimes.
Our crime and scandal collection doesn’t stop there. Discover the story of Ruth Ellis, who was born in Rhyl, and learn about the events that made her one of the most infamous names in British criminal history.
